Make Your Features Pop! Our Step-By-Step Tutorial On Contouring Your Face

Ladies, we got you a step-by-step tutorial on how to contour your face. That’s right! Contouring and highlighting, if done well, can go a long way in sculpting your facial features to give your visage a refined look, like making that nose appear thinner and smaller, accentuating those cheekbones, and giving your face a killer chiselled look. The tricks are knowing which areas need to be highlighted and which need to be shaded, to give the spotlight effect and make you feel like a celebrity. You will require a concealer, light and dark coloured liquid or stick foundation, a powder foundation and blush.
1. Cleansing
Start by washing your face thoroughly with a face wash and then moisturising. A good moisturiser is important as it nourishes and protects your delicate skin. Wait for the moisturiser to dry to move onto the next step.
2. Foundation
Choose a foundation which matches your skin tone. It should match your skin perfectly so that it disappears when applied on your face. Try out the foundation on the inside of your wrist as that will let you establish what your undertone is. Don’t forget to use the foundation on your neck to even out the colour. You can use a brush or, like me, your finger tips to blend it all in. Get foundations here.
3. Concealer
After the foundation is applied, use a concealer to cover those stubborn blemishes and acne that you can see. Apply the concealer directly on the spots that stand out and blend it in till your skin looks even. Don’t forget to apply the concealer under your eyes and around the mouth as well to cover those dark spots. You can buy concealers and correctors here.
4. Powder Up
Tap the brush after dipping it in the powder to get rid of excess particles. Remember less is more in this case and you don’t want your face looking like a mask. This step will help seal all the products onto your face. Sweep it under your eyes on the concealer to help prevent it getting clogged in your under-eye creases.
5. Highlighter
You can either use a highlighter or, if you have a darker skin tone, mix a lighter concealer with your regular foundation and apply it on your T-zone. Also highlight the area under your eyes and above the cheekbones, under your nose and the smile lines, just above your jawline and the centre of your chin. Lastly, blend it all till there are no visible lines of definition.
5. Contour
Use a concealer or foundation in a darker tone than your skin. Apply it on either side of your nose, bottom of your jawline, along the forehead hairline and under your cheekbones. Now, blend it all in. You can add another coat of powder foundation to seal it all in and remove any trace of excessive oily shine.
6. Blush Away
Lastly, apply a light coat of blush to give your face a glow. And voila! You are ready for that red carpet appearance. Get a wide variety of blushes here.
